Details:
As my husband and I drove out to set up signs before the race, I wasn’t sure how many people would show up as it was wet and not great weather. To my surprise, we had 24 riders! I was very happy with the people who came to make this first year event a success. Thank you all for coming and I hope to make this an annual event with even greater participation.
In the expert male division, a tie was recorded by Aaron Foos, Marcus Waterus and Stephen Ball, due to a discrepancy with the finish line. Second place was a rider new to the Yukon, but obviously not new to racing , Craig Machtans and third went to Joel Macht. Way to go, our fastest riders!
Expert women saw Trena Irving complete the 88 in 3:41:55 (the first 44 was done on tandem with Cayla and Ava and the last 44 solo).
In Sport Men’s 88 division, Jon Heaton took first with a time of 2:49:21, followed by Pete Smillie and Shea Hoffman, for second and third.
Sport Women’s 88 division saw a first place finish by Simi Moorison, a second place finish by Martie Ritchie and third place went to Lynn Cherverie.
Sport men’s 44 saw Tristian Muir taking 1st in the U13 division, with a time of 2 hours for 44 km. Peter Staley came 1st in Master’s division with a time of 1 hour, 45 minutes.
Sport women 44 was a mother/daughter duo: Lisa Pauls (mom) came first with a time of 1:42:58 followed by her daughter, Erin at 2:02:06
Finally, Ava Irving-Staley and Cayla Jackson both did 22 km on the tandem with Trena. Ava took first in the U13 division and Cayla took first in the para athlete category.
Thanks so much to everybody who helped out and made this event successful, especially Martin Eckervolt who drove support all day, Cheryl Van Blaricom our timer, Mark Ritchie for helping with the barbeque and food, Karmen Cheetam for helping with logistics, Peter Staley for organizing and always a huge thank you to Icycle Sport and Jonah Clarke, and Cadence Cycle and Dean Eyre. Thanks to the Community Development Fund for partial funding of our new, bright signs.
