What a way to finish off April, with a balmy time trial! Conditions were ideal for the first time trial of the season. Slight wind both ways but sunny, low traffic and fast!! Highlights of the race include a very fast time by Shea Hoffman, beating his PR from last year and edging out Geoff Harries by just over a minute, followed by Phil in third. Tristian Muir, a new rider only 11 years old, rocked the time trial with a 35 minute time, a very respectable time for his first time trial and he was just a over a minute faster than his dad, Andy Muir.
It was great to see some other female participation at the race and Deb and Kat both debuted time trialing tonight with excellent results. Deb took first in Sport women’s category. Kat beat her goal of 45 or under. Trena Irving took first in Expert Women as she was the only one in that category and did not make her goal of under 30 (always next time!)
We hope to see more people come out as we are putting on some new events this year with much interest from the northern populaces. On May 10th we have organized the Haines Junction 88 Road Race, a race from HJ to Dezadeash, 88 km return. Over the May long weekend, we will do the Tour de Skagway, in partnership with Sockeye Cycle. Many local Haines Junction residents are planning on competing in the HJ 88 and Skagway is all a buzz about the new event and planning to send out its fastest riders to show us how to ‘tame the HILL’.
